Amber Loveshe, Intern, Inner Courage Counseling
Thank you for taking the brave first step of finding support by seeking counseling. Having been in the client’s seat myself for many years, I know how intimidating it can feel to start going to therapy. My first priority will be making sure that you feel comfortable, welcome, and supported in this space. Because you are the expert of your lived experiences, I hope to collaborate with you in naming and working towards your personal goals to ensure your needs are always at the forefront of our work. Additionally, I hope to create an environment where your cultural background, values, salient identities, and feelings are affirmed and incorporated into everything we do together. Because I believe authenticity is central to mental health wellness, I will engage authentically with you in sessions rather than maintain a quiet, blank demeanor. By being genuine, I hope to build trust in our relationship and to encourage you to feel comfortable expressing yourself authentically in and out of sessions. After all, if I’m not willing to share who I am, I certainly couldn’t expect you to be willing to share who you are with me.
I am currently in my final year of getting my Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from DePaul University. Over the past two years, I’ve had experience working with adolescents, adults and families on a variety of concerns such as anxiety, depression, career changes, work life balance, interpersonal difficulties, and healing from trauma.
In my therapy, I tend to utilize Relational Cultural Therapy, Person-Centered Therapy, and Narrative Therapy the most often because they emphasize the client’s internal experiences in a way that incorporates multiculturalism, empowerment, and authenticity. Additionally, these therapies easily allow for techniques from other theories, such as Cognitive-Behavioral therapy to be integrated quite easily. In the past I’ve utilized techniques from Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy and Dialectic Behavioral Therapy. That being said, I want to emphasize that your personal preferences when it comes to therapy will always take precedence in helping you. My overall goal will always be to support you in resolving your concerns in a way that is affirming and driven by your unique preferences.
