Erin Oberman, Masters Intern
Erin Oberman, Intern, Inner Courage Counseling
Hi everyone! My name is Erin Oberman (she/her/hers) and I am a 3rd year Clinical Mental Health Counseling Masters student at DePaul University. Prior to pursuing a Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and joining the ICC team, I was an Interior Designer at a handful of firms in the Chicagoland area. While it was ultimately not the field for me, Interior Design helped me realize my passion for helping and working closely with others.
Navigating life can be difficult, lonely, and scary at times- you are not alone! The decision to begin therapy can be a daunting one, so my top priority is to create a safe space where you feel validated and respected as you embark on your own healing journey. I have found a passion for working with young adults and adults struggling with eating disorders or body image, general anxiety and depression, sexual assault trauma, and career transitions.
By working through my own trauma, I’ve gained a deep empathic understanding and a motivation to help others heal. Trauma can manifest in many forms and create challenges in everyday living, but through self-acceptance we can learn to find peace and grow from our experiences. I gravitate towards an eclectic therapeutic approach consisting of (but not limited to) Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), with Person-Centered roots. Long story short: I believe everyone’s trauma and life experiences are unique and therefore require individualized approaches throughout the healing process. Tailoring the therapeutic experience to an individual’s specific needs, strengths, beliefs, and personality is imperative to healing, along with gaining a strong sense of self and purpose to navigate the future.
